The Metrics that Describe the MS1 Level of Ionization:
Some thoughts on measuring the strength of the signal in MS1. The metrics in this group are all closely related, but they each give a subtlety different view of the signal strength.
- Peak Intensity is the intensity at the highest point of the MS1 peak for a peptide.
- Dynamic Range is the range of MS1 peak intensities that allows for detection of peptides.
- Signal to Noise estimates how strong the signal is, that is, how much larger the large peaks in the spectrum compared to the the background noise.
- Total Ion Current (TIC) estimates the total signal available in the mass spectrometer.
- Ion Inject Time is the time in milliseconds that it takes to fill the ion trap.
